BIOGRAPHY
Emma Warburton is a Melbourne-based contralto who enjoys discovering and performing interesting repertoire that is not widely known, with a focus on sacred music and Renaissance polyphony. She studied voice with Suzanne Johnston at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, attaining a Bachelor of Music (Degree with Honours) in Performance.
Emma was a Choral Scholar with the Choir of Trinity College, Melbourne, from 2014 to 2020, during which time the choir recorded four albums and toured to Europe, the UK, the USA, and Canada. In 2022, Emma took part in the inaugural Apprentice Program with The Song Company, Australia's national vocal ensemble, including performances of Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem, Brumel’s 12-part Missa Et ecce terrae motus from the original choirbook notation, and the Australian premiere of a specially abridged version of Antony Pitts’s Jerusalem–Yerushalayim oratorio at the Australian Jewish Choral Festival. In November 2022, she performed as an Ensemble Artist in The Song Company’s Fullness of Joy program in Sydney, featuring Tallis’s Spem in alium and Missa puer natus est nobis. Also in 2022, Emma performed in Melbourne Octet’s Queen of Heaven – Marian Motets, as a soloist in the St John’s Southgate Bach Cantata Program, and gave solo recitals in the St Paul’s Cathedral Lunchtime Concert Series and at the Austral Salon.
Emma is the Leading Musician at St Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne, where she sings in weekly Evensong and Eucharist services, a Soloist at the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Melbourne, and TONUS AUSTRALIS Program Coordinator. She also sings with chamber choirs Ensemble Gombert and Polyphonic Voices, and vocal consort Alchemy, and teaches singing and piano.
